ABOUT ELGUIN
Home of the NFL hall-of-famer “Mean Joe” Greene, the city of Elgin, Texas owes its existence to a major flood of the Colorado River in 1869, which diverted a planned railroad stop to the city from a location 12 miles to the east. The Elgin Commercial Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, with 67 buildings contributing to the city’s historical significance. Today, Elgin’s economy has been largely stimulated by its prime filming location for Hollywood movie producers. Films shot on location include Varsity Blues, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Michael, and the 2013 installment of Transformers. Elgin has experienced rapid growth in recent years as residents of nearby Austin have moved to the surrounding cities. Mortgage and loan buyers in Elgin have seen steady growth.
