ABOUT AZLE
Azle, Texas was established in 1846 by Dr. James Azle Stewart, who was soon followed by pioneering families living near the area’s plentiful streams and rivers. The community’s early economy was centered around agriculture, with many crops such as cotton, corn, and wheat being planted, as well as dozens of fruit orchards. Dairy farming and cattle ranching also became important facets of the city’s economy in the early 20th century. In the 1930’s, construction of a major highway connecting Azle to Fort Worth was completed, and Eagle Mountain Lake was formed by a dam on the Trinity River. Azle’s proximity to Ft. Worth and its position as the “Gateway to Eagle Mountain Lake” have made the city a popular place to live. Mortgage and loan buyers in Azle have also seen steady growth.
