ABOUT DECATUR
Originally founded in 1857, Decatur, Texas is a city in Wise County, located 25 miles northwest of Fort Worth and 45 miles northwest of Dallas. In 1864, the Wise County Old Settlers held their first meeting. This has become an annual tradition in Decatur, and the reunion continues to take place to this day. The city gained fame in popular culture with the phrase “Eighter from Decatur” being used a slang phrase used by craps shooters who want to roll an eight. In 1949, Decatur mayor Sly Hardwick added the phrase to two signs welcoming tourists to the town. The city of Decatur has enjoyed steady growth in both its population and local economy since the 1930’s. Mortgage and loan buyers in Decatur have also seen steady growth.
