ABOUT WEBSTER
Webster, Texas was originally established as a colony for English settlers in 1879. The city began as a stopover for travelers between Houston and Galveston. Local farmers capitalized on the area’s warm climate by growing vast fruit orchards, and the area was particularly famous for its flavorful pears. In 1903, the city’s Chamber of Commerce invited Japanese native Seito Saibara to Webster to teach rice farming to local residents, establishing the Gulf Coast region’s flourishing rice industry. The city benefitted from the area’s petro-chemical boom of the early 1900’s. In 1961, NASA built the Johnson Space Center along the shores of neighboring Clear Lake, stimulating another boom in population growth and business development in the city. Today, Webster is a thriving bedroom community closely tied to the Clear Lake Area high-tech industry. Mortgage and loan buyers in Webster are busier than ever.
